I got the cover off the oil cooler. Was able to remove the two secondary fuel filters without disconnecting the lines. My cover is very corroded with a big hole in the bottom and a smaller one at the top. Couldn't find the remains of a gasket, just a lot of blue permatex. One of the studs was missing on the back side and another stud came out with the cover. I'm going to cut a new gasket and install it when the replacemant cover comes in. I can see the importance of making sure the sealer goes around every stud. It looks like this started leaking at the top and ran down the side. Would this corrosion have occurred with a good antifreeze mix? There is antifreeze in the system now but I don't know the history of this truck. It looks like the cooler is stainless. Should I do a good radiator flush after I get this back together? Does anyone know what the silver piece is sticking out of the side of the cooler? It has a cap that turns and says "open" with an arrow? Some kind of purge/drain valve?

Looks like the coolant was very corrosive. Don't know if it was lack of antifreeze or low PH makeup water but thats where the coolant filter and PH test strips can really make a difference.
