I am still having problems with my oil filters leaking from the bottom of the canister. I used the gaskets supplied with the kit from Eriks surplus, then i tried the one from napa and it was to large of a diameter. What are my other options Get one made put 2 instead of 1.
Thanks for the help guys

The ones from NAPA should fit perfectly. Are you recessing the gasket into the groove? The outer edge of the gasket should be hidden from view as it is recessed into the groove around the filter base.

Are you torquing them? If the can turns when it is tightened, the gasket will be cut and and ugly leak happens.

It's interesting how all the information is to be found in various places in the TMs, but rarely all in one place. The "60 lb-ft" came from a 3rd manual....
Notice that the edge of the canister should be inspected also.
Practice makes perfect.

It is kind of funny to read those two snippets Bjorn. After forty years they do have a glimmer of future problems we now face. I wonder how many of the canisters now have defective edges? Interesting that this was noticed back so many years ago.

We had a leak problem on one of our dueces. We had switched the center bolts and cans unknowingly when we re-installed them. We tightened to spec, but developed a leak. We found the center "bolt" was bottoming in the threads in the filter base. We ground some off the bottom of the bolt and the problem went away.
