Oil in Deuce's Exhaust Manifold.

Multi Fuel. LTD-465-1D Reo 1970 Turbo Diesel. I am finding too much oil in exhaust manifold. Engine is in good condition with new rings pistons and liners. 0 miles on truck. How do I stop engine from slurping oil? Can anyone help me? Would it help to retard the engine timeing? If I added a muffler to create back preasure would that stop oil slurping? It has a turbocharger. Thanks Hugo. aua

I heard somewhere the slobber was caused by not running the engine hot enough, ie lots of idling and short drives.

The OP posted that oil was in the manifold, that's prior to the turbo. How do you know it is a zero mile rebuild? If it is indeed, run it hard, the rings aren't seated. Idling it is the worst thing you can do, the cylinders will glaze and it will be a 139 hp oil pump. And no these engines don't like to idle. They suck oil past guides and rings and load the cylinders, ports, manifolds, turbos and exhaust pipes with oil.

Back OT. How much oil are we talking about? It's normal for the multifuel to slober a little oil out tha exhaust if run without a load on it.

I have tried 2 different turbo's. Exhaust is clean. Engine sounds good. 0 miles becaused I put in new pistons rings and liners. It has idled a lot. I am now thinking to run it hard to seat the rings but wanted advice first. I have a lot of work in it,don"t want to do anything wrong. Hugo.

They really love to run. I would be surprised if it didn't take about 30min or more before you notice it running better. It will happen, and you will have "perm-a-grin" for the rest of the month!

Make sure the thermostat is the hottest that you can get and is working properly. If you have to idle it more then a couple of minutes, ie. warming it up, pull the throttle out to 1100 or 1200 RPM, and let it run.

I'm having that problem with mine. I just got it and since it's not registered yet I can't take it on the highway and run it so I've just been running around my ranch. I figure its from the low speed low RPM driving I'm doing. It's got a ton of blow by coming out of the stack. I hope running it on the highway clears it up.

CLay, Yes low speed light load running will make it smoke. The turbo needs to get hot enought to seal. Don't drive it like you stole it. But give it something to do. About 3 miles if working will clear it right up.
