oil-leak found and solved !

well i did solved the oil-leak problem last 3 weeks. The head-gasket was leaking, ( not much but enough to worry about for me ).
To prevent bigger problems i replaced the head-gasket. When waiting for the heads ( they be resurfaced ) i did replace some other gaskets aswell ( oil-cooler, compressor, injector-pump....). When the heads came back i had all the part cleand-up and repaint and put back on place chanced all the fuel-lines. Did some small rides around town and everythink looks good no leaks. Two days ago the big test a long trip an the highway to pick-up a new bed for the deuce and everything went well.

Noticed that at idle it run a bit rougher then before and on the highway the temp. was a litle higher it 190 and before it always stay on 180.
it also seems to have more power it go’s much easyr to top speed then before.
I think it has something to do with the timing of the injector-pump. Can it ???

It all was fun to do but i don’t wanna do it again !!!!! The coolest thing is all the info for this job i found here on this site.

Nice truck!!! I really like that shortened bed/crane combo!
What brand/model crane is that and did you just cut some off of the bed or did you also move the rest back several inches to create enough room for the knuckle boom?

How much were the heads shaved? The increase in compression could cause some combustion issues. How thick of a head gasket did you put on?

you ain't gonna change the compression by shaving these heads.There are no combusion chamber in them period.They are dead flat smooth.Valves are almost flush when closed and there is the one injector hole but the nozzle takes care of that.

Gringeltaube: the crane is a ATLAS don’t no what model it is. just cut off the bed to make room for it. the bed hanging on the crane is gonna replace it . it’s a three-ways dump bed ( must make it fit )

Flea: i acree with freighttrain.Just a stock(old-style) gasket don’t no the thicknis. i think i chanced the timming of the feulpump just a bit . the marking didn’t line up before i pull the pump of the engine. i thought i put it back on at the same position but can be of a bit. But i don’t gonna change it back the truck run better and the 190 looks like a nice temp. to me.

Outstanding truck DD. Very clean. I would love to know more about those wheels (you already discussed the tires).

I've always wondered how difficult it would be to do a major repair (like this) on a US Made truck in a foreign country. Did you find it difficult to get parts over there? If not, where did you get them (are there many suppliers in northern Europe?).

I have been to the Netherlands twice...wonderful country, beautiful scenery, nice people, pretty girls! :)

The wheels are from the same russian truck ( ZIL 157k ) the tires where on the wheels when get them and most importend they where cheap.
Parts are not to hard to get but cost a lot and they are not always in good condition. There about 3 suppliers in the Netherlands i now of they have most of the parts but there al from the early days.

Yeah wonderful country but don’t stop for gas here ( diesel is about 8 dollars a gallon )
