Take the head back off, hold it by the body and press the shaft with the button down on a solid table. See if it moves. If it moves then the problem is in the pump itself, which I am guessing is your problem.

The drive key that connects the plunger to the drive gear can be off by 180 degrees. There are three flats and one curved edge. Assure this is correct. You have to disassemble to check, it doesn't need any special tools.

If the plunger is not moving, that is a sign the plunger is stuck at top dead center, this happens when the smallest bit of dirt gets in there. You have to be surgically clean when installing, microscopic dirt particles will jam the plunger.

Buttons come in different thickness, this determines timing and maximum injected quantity. Be careful here.

Ok, took head back out. It moves and returns freely. I did pit a pencil in the top by removing the bolt and cranked before removing. I could feel it going up and down.

So, any ideas what next? Still have it out.
. Did you feel the plunger also turning? If not, that is a broken key. Timing the pump is pretty easy, there are marks on both gears. The gear on the pump and the one that turns it. They must be aligned. Since they are 1:1, there is only one way to install. Stick transfer case in neutral and transmission in 5th, then rotate engine with a bar through the shaft connecting transfer and transmission. Rotate until the quill gear in the pump body is visible and in the middle of the window. Do the same with the hydraulic head.

Yes, actually the Oldham drive key per Bosch literature. Since the plunger is a fuel tight fit, debris in the fuel or varnish can cause binding so this is the weak link designed to break. It also wears from the plunger sliding in it,throwing timing off.

No worries I just thought since there is a big emphasis on useing the TM's and the search fuction that it be called what our TM's say it is called. When ordering from Ambac then the drive key or plunger guide.
