OH! Well. About 53 years ago, I seem to remember installing about a million of them. We got 25? maybe more Long Bed 5 Tons for our unit, and a lot of cargo trailers. None of them had Tie Down points. We were a poor Army then. We had no hole cutters, so we cut the holes with an Oxy/Acetylene torch. Days on end. The our stupid welder welded all the Tie Down plates in the holes. Worked, but looked ugly. The trucks were for the Hawk loader transport and the extra Hawk birds. The loader trucks needed 28 ratchet straps. So each truck needed 36 of those puppies.

I've seen some that look very professionally done (my M813 is a good example) and some that look like they were stuck on with chewed bubblegum in holes poked through by Godzilla's flaming claw. And lots in between (my M416). :)

My M715s all have them in the bed, but they look like they were done in the factory, as all are very cleanly installed with reinforcing rings and in exactly the same way.

Cheers

At some point in time they started to come from the factory with the tie Down points. And we took all out M813 Dropsdes to a huge parking lot, took off the sides and tail gate. Had a German Unit in K-Town do the trucks for us. Two teams did the sides and rear tailgate. Two teams did what was left on the truck. Read hole drills, and pros on the welding. Then we sanded and painted. Took several weeks to do the whole battalion.
