Old report - oil analysis in military engines

This report is dated, but still interesting.
It compares performance of some oils including synthetic in extended/ no drain service. I believe synthetic oils have improved since then, and from having used Mobil 1 in 2 of my vehicle engines for a little while during that time, surmise a lot of the oil "consumption" was really leakage through the gaskets used back then. Synthetic seemed to go right thru cork. I discontinued it because of excessive leakage, but run it in more recent engines without issue.
