Opinion on air filters?

I have used NAPA Gold 6096 for my 1009 for years, but recently finished off my last case of them.

I'm shopping for some new ones, and there are several options I was hoping to get opinions on.

Napa 6096 - probably the best, $21/ea + shipping

Delco A644C - Probably as good as NAPA, $15/ea + shipping

Random generic brand - doesn't have the foam pre-filter band and will probably clog/wear out faster, but it's still an air filter. $2 + shipping

I'm honestly leaning towards the cheap one and just changing them more often. I can literally get 10x of them delivered for the price of 2x of the Napa ones, so who cares if they don't have the foam pre-filter and need to get replaced more often. Thoughts?

I think you are correct. The non turbo 6.2 won’t take advantage of the 1-5% airflow gain the expensive filters might give you.

That foam band you can get those foam covers online. I got a few for mine. Unfortunately I can't find the order that I got them from!! I think it was through napa though. I got 3 3 set nos boxes of filters and the foam was falling off so I blew it out and put new ones on. Got the filters free lol. They were from 1988.

Yes but your 6.2 might experience valve recession from the extra dirt passed by the inexpensive filter. Air filters are not an item to cheap out on. I put a Donaldson PowerCore on mine when I did the turbo conversion.

They were cheap yes but original gm filters.

The performance ratings aren't usually published for air filters, that makes it difficult to compare brands. Napa, Wix, AC Delco, Hastings, etc... all tend to sell decent filters. I am not a fan of Fram, Champ, and K&N from experience. I would be hesitant to install a $2 air filter. Even Fram and Champ sell good filters sometimes. The fuel filters for the 6.2 were were always OEM Stanadyne so it didn't matter who you bought it from. I've noticed recently that there are Chinese knockoffs showing up.
