RE: repainting

For you guys that want to get paint mixed locally here is a color break down of FS color codes. You should be able to get these mixed at any industrial or automotive supplier… (that doesn’t include Homies or Lowes)

Federal Standard FS.595a/595B

The example of the FS number could be:

Example “35526”

The first figure can be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:

1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt

Also to semi-gloss or gloss colors - just replace the leading digit with 2 or 1, respectively.

The second figure of FS code indicates a general color classification group -

0 = brown
1 = red
2 = orange
3 = yellow
4 = green
5 = blue
6 = grey
7 = other (white, black, violet, metallic)
8 = fluorescent

The remaining figures (third to fifth) combined into a number indicate the intensity. Lower value indicates a darker color, higher value - a lighter color, with no other significance.

Hence the number above 35526 is Light blue… 34102 would be Forest Green…

Keep in mind that the "name" of these are not a "spec".. They are merly suggestive...

RE: repainting

That's pretty much what I planned on doing. That explanation was very helpful with nice photos. Once I get mine painted I will post some pics. Its gonna be a few weeks as I collect and make the supplies.

update question: Although the Army and the Marines might use slightly different colors on their M35 paint jobs, would the camouflaged pattern be the same?

Thanks
Make sure you take some pics before you start so you can replicate the camo pattern, all M35A3's that I have seeing with original paint job have the exact same pattern and the patterns matches 100% with camo vinyl covers patterns.

If I was going to do it, I would probably scribe where the patterns change colors by the top of the sides and back so you will know where to tape.

While a poster said that you have fading and that the colors this year wont match last years, even from the same can, well I can believe that, but under the hood on my Duce, the motor does appear to be a color not used on the outside surfaces, It is a different color is'nt it? A darker green.

In addition to powerwashing, wipe the important areas down with some type of surface prep to eliminate any silicone, diesel residue, etc. Failure to do so may result in "fisheyes" popping up when you spray. JSH, auto parts store

A little thing I noticed about M35A3s (and just M35A3s) is that the brown that AM General used during the rebuilds is not the same shade brown use on all the other vehicles in the fleet. The brown on M35A3s seems not to be carc but rather the older field drab on the MERDC camo patterns.
