Hey ya'll. I'm getting ready to slowly start re-painting my truck panel-by-panel. I don't want the 3 color camo pattern that is currently on it, as that is just too much work for me to bother with. I want it to be one solid color. OD Green (or Foliage green...whatever its called these days).

I see where Memphis Equipment has some "Aervoe" paint in a couple green colors (OD, and Semi-gloss OD). Is that stuff any good?

Does anyone have pictures of flat OD-green vs. Semi-gloss OD?

Also, whats this 383 CARC I hear of?

if you want as close to mil spec as possible you have RAPCO, AERVOE, and Gillispie (think thats how you spell it).... rapco and gillispie may be the same stuff just different suppliers im not certain. Aervoe used to be real bad about turning pink. They may have fixed it but havent heard that they had. links are below.

Army Jeep Parts Inc., O.D. Paint, Gillespie Coatings Inc. manufactured.

PAINTS

Ive painted lots of vehicles but have never used anything but duck boat paint from the hardware store. the two trucks below were both paint with 15 dollar a gallon duckboat paint and i think they turned out pretty good.

I used a little less than three gallons of 24087 - that's a fairly dark OD that was used back in the 70's.

I bought my Gillspie paint from the folks at Rapco. Also bought a bunch of the same stuff in spray cans from them for touch-ups; that beats having to clean up the HVLP spray gun for minor touch-ups.

Your choices are 383 green (base color for 3 color camo scheme), forest green (base color for many of the 4-color camo schemes), and semi-gloss (I believe Carl has the right color code, but I don't know because I never painted a truck this color). I believe, but am not sure, that there was also a specific USMC color variant used in the late 60s and early 70s. Hopefully, someone else knows the details. Gillespie makes a good paint in my opinion.

What is this duckboat paint you speak of? Brand? Where to buy? etc?
Thanks

Thanks for the help. I did a quick google search to see examples of different shades, and stumbled on this picture:

Lusterless USMC Forrest Green (34052). I believe it is the one I want. I would like to see an entire truck painted this one color to get a better idea of what it would look like.

34094 (383 CARC substitute) is too light.
24087 is just weird (no offense to anyone), but my eyes do not like it.
