Well we got bored this weekend, and my mom asked if we could do something about the eyesore in the drivewawy, so we threw a quick ass paint job on it. Only prep work was taking a scraper to the side of the bed where paint was flaking off and scraping off as much as i could, followed by wiping the whole truck down with surface cleaner then taping it off. No real sanding, and painted right over rust. The **** military paint is such a thick build you can't even tell. This was the first full vehicle i've painted, and the one run i got, we wiped with a paper towel and then sprayed over it and you can't even tell :) (although there are 2 other runs on the truck from when the gov painted it...we just painted over them.)
And yes, the passenger side of the bed is f*d up, we know. We are looking for a new bed, not worth doing body work to an army truck if it doesn't have rust holes.

couldn't attach any of the photos because it says they're all too large....so here's the links.

I think it came out pretty good for a job that took almost no effort at all. It looks beautiful from 10 feet.

whoever drove it did not know how wide it was or how to drive. the poor passenger side has dents all over it. One day we'll get a new bed and door for it; but it's a truck, it's gonna get ding'd up getting used.

Looks good. Any fresh paint, no matter how its comes out will look better over the old faded carc paint and rust. Best of luck with the truck. Any way you can add sometime to preserving a piece of AMERICAN history is good by me.

I'll be painting my 1008 soon. .if spring ever actually arrives he in old Moab . .in much the same style as I did my old Jeep Junk Cherokee. .with petroglyphs.

Better do it soon, as I just got my "ROKKART" plates

yeh i just don't want to drive that far for a bed.
as for the cherokee that's pretty unique, never seen a paint job like that. Are you required to have fender flares and mudflaps in utah? I'm just so used to seeing all the jeeps around me with out any that it looks weird seeing them

new Utah law requires that 100% of the tread be covered, so I adapted some steel trailer fenders for the job..Lots of folks just tack on some plastic garden edging, or something , and take it off after the state inspection.. .as evidenced by the hundreds of vehicles driving around here with the tread sticking out about a foot beyond the body.

My mud (required in theh back) flaps were cheapo door mats, but the got past the Utah theocracy . .and the Jeep is now in Colorado, where it doesn't matter.

here's a picture of the Jeep in action. .blending in QUITE nicely with the hillside

(just noticed that I've attained the exalted rank of CORPORAL around here. .but I'll probably get busted back down to Private E-1 shortly LOL)
