Parking Brake Cable Routing

I looked on all the threads on here and looked in the TM to see how the parking brake cable gets routed. When I bought my deuce, the parking brake cable was routed above the transfer case mount/bar on the driver’s side. this causes a sharp angle right where the sleeve of the parking brake cable mounts on the brake assembly. The TM did not state if it should be above or below the transfer case mount/bar. I looked on other deuces and the few that I looked at were routed ABOVE that transfer case mount/bar. So which is it? It makes sense that it should not have that kind of angle on the cable but the TM does not seem to specify.

Cable goes through a hole in the truck frame. Also, there is protective bolt on sleeve used to protect the cable from rubbing on the edges of the said hole.

That sure is a long song Gimp. Everytime I hear that song, I think of the Home Improvement episode where Tim scares his kids at Halloween. I guess you'd have to have watched Home Improvement to know what im talking about. haha!

I know how the cable comes out of the cab, then has the anti wear plate that protects it from the tool box, then it has the bracket/clamp that guides it though the frame... but what about after that? Does the cable go above or below the transfer case cross member? I wish i drove my Deuce to work today, I would go out and take a picture of it :p

I know what you mean... when I tried (years ago...) the cable was either too short or hitting the spare, or both, don't remember details. I know there was a reason I just left it like they all come from factory: routed over crossmember...

It just seems like a silly sharp angle on the cable as the sleeve bolts to the brake assembly. I would think it would wear the cable in that spot and cause it to fail faster. Maybe this weekend I will swap out my parking brake handles and see if I can route it under the crossmember.

Its funny the TM does not show it routed above or below the crossmember.

You DO know there is a cable specifically for the adjustable parking brake and one specifically for the "whale tail"brake, right?

Yes, i realize that. The cable I have was the one that came with the truck. What is the difference between the two cables? I did not think the cables were interchangable at all. I have the adjustable handle parking brake.

I was going to check out the parking brake cable this weekend but ended up putting a frost plug block heater in it instead.
