Passenger Hammock For Small Critter Friends

If you've seen posts of mine before, you may have seen I like to take my little dog with me on trips and parades in the deuce (where appropriate). Such as the following:



The problem for me, or rather my dog Dusty, is that she bounces around and has a hard time staying on the passenger seat - feet sliding off of all sides - and I also didn't want her to get hurt from just some hard braking (thrown onto the floor). So I would pile a bunch of crap and blankets in the foot space in front of the passenger seat then put her dog pillow over it all. This was always a big hassle for me to load/pack and unload the deuce each time. Worse, if I wanted to get into, say, a cooler buried on the passenger side.

So here is a homemade "car seat cover" or even "hammock" made by my very awesome mother.

Double layered twill canvas from Hobby Lobby, and nylon web straps and buckles from Ace Hardware. Can't wait to get the front axle put back together and try it out!

The nylon strap is sewn to the back of the canvas. What is seen in the below pictures on the front is just extra from tightening to fit. It's got 2-pair of straps and buckles in front, back, and underneath to attach to the bar below the passenger seat (this one is key for keeping the 'hammock' in place).

Outstanding idea. I don't know how many times BabyBear has been thrown into the floorboard when "Uncle Tony" hit the brakes too hard. A few times it was kinda funny but I'm glad I didn't know what he was thinking when he looked at us.

Dog owners that love their dogs, must be a real treat for the dog to get a custom made hammock that they can ride in & not get thrown on the floor during hard braking maneuvers to avoid little cars that swerve into your path.

That's nice, I bet the pup will enjoy it. I've had my brittany spaniel in the cab of the 5 ton, he was fine until the air relief let off, then he wanted OUT.

I'm not even going to try the climb into the cab with the 100lb+ german shepard.

In my original post, yes, yes she is.

She's ~10 lbs and is wearing the x-small size. It is a bit difficult to put them on solo, and she does not like them. But she sleeps during all 'car' rides so she keeps them on. Does she really need them, or are they really helping? I can't rightly say, but I feel better on long trips wearing mine, so she gets some too.

I find it comical as to your definition of SMALL critter friends. I was thinking ferrets, guinea pig, rabbit, chihuahua, small cat... I guess compared to a Cow or Horse your dog is small...

I usually tell folks that I had to get the deuce to compensate for my small dog, or vice versa.
