Well I drove it around a little more last night on the "back 40" so to speak. (There's 1400 acres behind my place of forestry land) Temp steadily increased. So last night I pulled off the crossover manifold and t-stat. They were nasty! Lots of brown icky in it as well. I replaced the crossover with a spare unit I have, due to the corrosion internally. I've reinstalled everything without a t-stat and am in the process of flushing everything. The original t-stat opened, but had scale all over it. Also reading up I found that the return tank lines were plugged up at the tank. I poked the crud clear of it, but noticed the holes are very small. I went ahead and opened up the ports with my drill as retiredwarhorses recommended in the thread. Hopefully I'll have it cleared out in the next half hour or so.

Looking up on issues is very much endorsed. Telling someone "you should have read the TM" type responses are not. ;)

So it seems to be improved a bit, but still warm. It crept up to 235-240 on the gauge. The fan did kick in before. But when I got home I threw the IR therm on the crossover tube and only saw 218F. The upper radiator was around 210. The lower portion of the radiator showed 183. The truck seems to run fine, no steam or anything. I'm wondering if I have a bad gauge. (Sender was replaced)

I'm in the same boat. Replaced the sender stat, and gauge. Still hot (235-240), no boil-over even with the cap off and straight water. I'm stumped.

I shows 185 at the tank, 205 at the top of radiator and 180 on the crossover.

Mildly stumped

I'm honestly thinking my gauge is off. I used a meat thermometer with a remote probe. I strapped it to the crossover tube. Highest temp I saw was ~185. But the fan did cut on, so that should be 220. The gauge on the dash did not venture past 225 though.

I was just going with that when you know when the fan Kicks on is a known value vs the gauge reading. Mine shows 10 degrees hotter then actual. So it might just be normal?

Went for a spin this afternoon. I had added two more bottles of coolant flush to the system. (I had only put one bottle in it, but given the capacity, it needed more) I watched the gauge like a hawk. It got up to 220 at most. The fan would kick in, then after a bit the fan kicked out. And the temp would show 210-215ish. My "redneck" second gauge showed a highest temp of 187. I *hope* this means things are resolved. I'm going to run the flush in it for the next couple of weeks though.

So I haven't updated this thread in some time. Shame on me. But the 1038 has gone through several changes. First of all, it's a four man now. I changed out to a softtop. Even added a few other accessories. With all that, I managed to win best in show at a local car show as well in town.

But anyone know me. I can't leave stuff alone. So it looks like I'm going to be adding a slantback, Air Conditioning, sound deadning, turbo, and OD. Picked up a set of X doors today.

I'll make sure to update this thread more frequently!

Some more updates. Got the turret support mounted in. I'm using the folding windshield so it has no provision for the turret. So I used 5/16 rivet nuts. Man, what a pain without the tool. At least with the stainless steel hardware I used. I'm going to re-torque them down once more before I hang the roof on it. I'll also be using them for the roof mounts since they're steel. And I need to put the roof on to get an idea of where to mount the mounts. Then another torque down once everything is in place. (And re-checks after I'm driving it) I really should have bought the tool to do this. If they were aluminum/bronze it would have been a breeze with my two wrenches and a grinder wheel spanner method. But I wanted something stronger and I didn't want steel that would corrode. Once the weather starts being a little better, I'm going to paint the inside of the roof green in prep for install along with the brackets. I've decided as well that there's going to be one civilian accessory added. A backup camera.

Looks good! Really interested to see the turbo set up you put on it. Are you going with a factory style setup or an aftermarket style? Also what are your plans for sound deadening? I have been experimenting lately with this and can give you some info on what I have found to be the best vs cheapest sound and heat insulation.
