I am looking at a M35 that has a Perkins diesel in it. Anyone have any experience with this set up?

Thanks for your replies,

Mike

Post a pic, there were none.

You sure it's not a Cummins?

Doghead,

No photos. The truck is a ex fire truck still in red. The fire chief checked the engine for me and stated it had a Perkins tag on it.

Perkins does have a straight 6 model that is about the same size as a 5.9 cummins. We have one in our spray rig, and it is a very reliable smooth and strong running engine.

Possibly a 6.354.4...? Many (in my area) have adapted that engine in a Deuce, mainly due to availability but also because of their popularity and very good reputation!

This chart may help to better identify the engine you are looking at...

Well I won the auction and the truck turns out to be a 1972 M756 with a Perkins diesel. I was wondering about the bed on the back since it appeared to be strange but with further photos I discovered that it had a wood floor and it appears most of the headache rack is there. Now all I need to do is find a metal cab top to replace the funky wood one that the fire department built and installed. I will post photos once I recover it.
