I smoked an alternator in one of my M923A2's. I was using the truck to slave one of the MEP-952B gens for a while then the next day this happened. It really cooked up.

Seen that happen a time or two when 24 Volts is (tried) into 12 Volts.

I didn't change anything in the electrical system just used a slave cable to jumpstart a generator when I was trying to get fuel to feed on the gen. The truck was running and the batteries were charged. It is very possible the alternator was just on its way out though.

I bought one for 100 bucks from a guy parting some trucks out. No idea if that was good, bad, or average.

With 4 big batteries between the load & your alternator should have prevented that. I agree, it would have happened anyway.

a little sandpaper and dielectric grease will bring her back to life........
