This looks very nice. Are you planning on keeping what appears to be tie down points where the supports meet the basket? These would be quite handy. Or, are these there to earn style points? I think they would be very useful to secure a tarp or hang gear while camping.

Is the NMO mount just a tab for the through hole type? This would be the most desirable setup enabling you to swap the base for the particular application.

Please keep us informed of the progress. I'm adding it to my letter to Santa!!

That rack looks great! On my 84 M1009, the radio antennae holes are quite a bit more to the rear than on yours. Front looks like the same.

I like the bed of the rack. Can't say so about the choice in mounting though. I do understand the "why" of it, but just not digging it, personally. I'll be interested in seeing the final product. Perhaps it will look better to me or grow on me, heh.

The arches and holes, on the verticals, actually add strength to the support member, so yes they will stay on the production models. We will be removing most of the steel mesh from the floor and replacing it with front to rear bars.

As to mounting points, my M1009 did not have rear antenna mounts so we put them in ourselves, when you get the kit there are no holes drilled in the rack sides, you mount up the supports to the body, set the rack where you want it in regards to front/rear, clamp, and drill your holes, you could also weld it if you ordered it unfinished.

Mounting to the body in my opinion was the best choice versus drilling the fiberglass. What you cannot see in the photos are the adjustible bump stops on the vertical supports that screw out to make contact with the cap (they are rubber) so that in the event of a major weight shift the load is supported by 16 threaded rivets in the body and 4 stops stitting against the cap.


The outer front tabs are just flat NMO mount holes.

At this point I feel comfortable with 2-5gallon fuel cans, spare and another 100lbs of gear on it. makes a handy hunting perch too...

The rack looks good. I think a minimum of 500 lbs is what to shoot for. 700 lbs would be very versatile and, IMHO, a better selling point. I also like the idea of a ladder.

What do you think they will retail for? Any other bits and pieces being developed for the M1009?

Ok here is the deal on the rack system, I am currently testing the 2nd prototype, we have already set in place changes from this testing. I will contact the owners of this site when we are ready to advertise it for sale and work out something with them for a banner ad etc.

It's a pic I found on the net, actually.

I am going to make some changes to it and currently dont have the equipment, so I'm taking to a few local welders. I might just say screw it though and break down and buy a good welder and pip bender and do it myself.
