I am looking at a m54a2 as a potential guntruck build. The truck has a winch and the low mounted headlights. To me that seems like that would be a m54 or m54a1 series truck but looks like it was repowered with the LDS- 465-1a. I have 6 books on guntrucks and I cant find a guntruck that had the low mounted headlights. I didnt just want to do a "replica" truck. Any one know of any guntrucks with the low mounted headlights so I can try and make it as accurate as possible?

Odd, I always thought winch trucks had upper mounted headlights. also the LDS is typical on a early 5 ton. similar to the engine of the 2 1/2 ton. does the truck have the standard dashboard tags? if so it will have a build date shown. a lot of folks like winch trucks and its not hard to add them to non winch trucks. also new name plates are not that hard to upgrade. it is possible that someone added a winch over the course of its life and never got around to moving the headlights to the high position.

The truck has a vin and is a m54a2 on the tag. It looks like a winch was added at a later point because tag says wo/winch. I didnt get the year from the seller because the forestry department had it titled as a 1975 MACK. Whats odd is some of the early m54 and m54a1s were macks and military switched to multifuel. This is according to the guntruck books I have.

I figured if it had the low headlight position it must have had a different power plant and was upgraded.

The truck does have a 5th gear overdrive instead of the 5th gear direct drive that would have come with the endt-673.

Its a mystery.
