Seasons Greetings, fellow members; I have searched the forums, aquiring info on which type of power steering upgrade is best for my application, and am now more confused than ever. I am looking for opinions and suggestions as to which route to take. I need more belly room behind the steering wheel, for sure, and know that the 18" wheel will help some. Can the angle of the steering column be altered? What is the most popular conversion?

Can someone enlighten me as to the best system? Thanks in advance. BTW the vehicle is 1970 kaiser m35a2.

Short answer?

This one: http://www.waterloospecialties.com/steering/index.html <--done by a distinguished SS member

Long answer? Lots of people have put together lots of attempts, some successful. Search "power steering" in the deuce modification forum. You'll find threads like these:

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showth...-steering-conversion&highlight=power+steering <--- another very good kit, but you'll need to source the parts yourself

Angle of the steering column: Yes. Do a search for "steering column" by author gringeltaube and you will find one way of doing it. Several people have slotted the dash and moved the column up but it involves adding a u-joint.

There is an air assisted steering kit for the A2, they may be hard to find but there is a lot of info on this site about them. I have a kit and an M809 wheel for my Deuce, but I have not installed them yet. I went on a diet instead. Now if I could only find a way to shorten my legs.

I second the Waterloo Specialties power steering kit for deuces. Tom's kit allows me to turn my 53" Michelins lock to lock while sitting still in my driveway.

I have been strongly considering power steering in my truck. The 2 kits I have narrowed it down to is toms kit and the c and c surplus one. I like the c and c one because everything is contained in the engine bay. My concern about this kit is if that hydraulic assist motor thingy on the steering column fails do you still have manual steering? It appears the shaft passes strait through the motor but I can't say that for sure. It would not be a fun day to loose all steering if that part failed.

Thanks for the information gentlemen: I have searched the forums, and have read a lot, but wanted the opinions of other members. Your input is much appreciated, and I was pretty much set on the waterloo kit to start with. Now my decision is made

Thanks again, and Happy Holidays to all.
