Proper Deuce markings

I want to get stencils made so I can paint all the correct markings on my 1970 Deuce for Vietnam re-enacting. Can someone point me in the right direction for a good source?

I have a friend that will make the stencils for me in re-payment of some minor favors. I don't know what they all are or what size each should be.

Thanks!

I was just looking around on ebay and saw a few stencils at Frank's Surplus. I'm not sure if they are "era correct" or not. Most of the searching I've done lately indicates there is little standardization for anything military as far as paint and markings. You'd think I'd realize that by now, but I still keep searching.

If you're not in contests for $$, I doubt if anyone will notice or care. When I was in Iraq, we stenciled using whatever we had or could get, (see avatar). We resorted to white chalk until some higher brass ordered us to stop writing on our trucks. I suppose he just wanted the IEDs and all to do the marking. I'm thinking the drivers in Viet Nam might have done the same thing. I don't know.

Your truck is going to get respect no matter what you do to it, or how "correct" the stenciling is.

Have fun and enjoy your truck!

stancanpara,

These links might help a little.

http://www.geocities.com/earlymb/markings.html

http://www.militarystencils.com/PaintMask.htm

Also, I understand that Military Vehicles Magazine has some back issues with the info.

My truck is in paint right now. I'm doing my bumpers to reflect my trans co., (1487TC), and my radio call sign / truck number, "Whiskey Tree (Three) from first platoon. Hence, 1487TC (stenciled above) W103, on the passenger side, and OIF 2 on the driver's side, (the second year of Operation Iraqi Freedom). No, it's not "exactly" what was on my 915A1, but it has the meaning and message that I want.

You can check out the M35 pages on my decal site, It gives quite a few of the specified sizes for each of the markings. My site for Delta Team Decals is http://www.i2k.com/~schwarzd/ I do sets in decals or as paint masks. Remember that in the 60's a lot of vehicles were marked with pressure sensitive decals instead of paint.

When you are anywhere on the website, other than the main page, you should see at the top of the page "profile". Click profile and at the the bottom of the page, there is a place where you can upload the small image to the left of a post (called an avatar).
