PTO/Clutch Shackle Question

I have two shackle and pin connectors on my deuce and I have a question about how they should be connected. The parts (see photo) have the pin going into the shackle but there is no component holding the pin in. It seems like there should be some type of detent. What am I missing?

You are missing the spring and ball bearing. If you look where that lil hole is there is a deep hole where these fit.

Okay. Anyone know of a source or the measurements of the spring and ball bearing?

You can estimate the size of the ball by using the radius of the grooves in the pin. Any spring longer than the hole should work. My local Ace Hdwe has a good selection of springs. Take the yoke with you when you go to the hdwe store.

Once you have the spring and ball bearing, I assume you just insert the spring and ball bearing into the deep hole and hold it in place with a pin until the yoke pin slides into place. Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct! In your pic above, the pin goes in the opposite direction. It inserts into the side of the yoke where the detent ball is first.

That's correct. Just be sure when you re-assemble it that you start on the side where the ball bearing is. The pin is just supposed to pop out far enough to clear, and not come all the way out. Someone who did not know that probably drove the pin all the way out, which is why the ball bearing and spring are missing. Happens to almost everyone once!

Thanks everyone. It makes perfect sense now. All I have to do is find a spring and ball bearing.

My info may come a bit late this time but here it is anyways....

• Helical spring: O.D. = 4.5mm, free lenght 14mm, wire diam. 0.75mm
• Ball bearing diam. = 5.5mm

And there is a reason....
1) for the two grooves being shaped differently .....
2) also to find the original pin replaced with a std. 1/2 bolt & nut, more than often........

Thanks G. I found a spring and ball bearing today and it went together well and seems to hold and slide fine.
