This morning while at the Alternative Fuel Fest my phone rang. Fellow SS Barricade (Mark) had buried his deuce nose down in a quagmire. As soon as the Fest was over I headed north to affect a rescue of the semi-submerged deuce.
Murphy was hovering over the situation and the rain started about half way to the mudbog. After a survey of the site and the hapless deuce I put the M927 in position. Mark had already attached a long cable to both lift shackles and we attached it to my pintle hitch.
The 5 ton dug in but the deuce resisted my first efforts. I dropped her into low range (front wheel drive was already engaged). I started rocking the big truck but still no soap. The truck would slide sideways and the tires spun on the wet grass, occasionally breaking though to the mud. I knew if I started cutting ruts the M927 risked getting mired up.
I backed up a few feet and got a running start to snatch the duece out. After several jerks the suction on the deuce broke and she started coming out of the hole. I continued pulling until Mark was on high ground.
All in all not too difficult of a recovery so I guess Murphy stopped for a Krystle burger.
