Thank you. I don’t know why I struggle finding the right TM.
.
Because they don't teach themselves... That you are looking through the books is a GOOD thing. I have grumbled and said bad words and been generally grumpy trying to find the information you (me, I) are looking for in these TM's.

The more you use them, the better you get at using them.

Often times, I used to go through every one starting with the -10 and search. Figuring out the correct term to search for is the most difficult part. But on the bright side, the more you "whip out the books" the more information they share with you.

I wish I could afford it in book form. I have the tag on my truck that tells me the exact ones I need. I’m trying to get a new computer just for my Humvee and the TM’s because it’s miserable on my phone. I love paper lol. I have out lived my technological capabilities

On a phone, TM's are pretty miserable. I went to the local Goodwill Technology Center and bought the oldest computer I could find. Maybe $30. I think it was running Windows 95 at the time. Dumped all my TM's onto it, and that machine does nothing but open PDFs. Don't have it connected to the Internet or try to browse with it (even though it could).

Paper Books really are nice to have. You can highlight the important stuff. You can use Post-It Notes to mark sections of the book you want to use regularly. I am in the business of making paper - so yeah - I prefer paper. You might look around and find a "Rugged Laptop" like the old IBM 2489 that was the first mobile computer sold to the NCSHP. They are old 486 CPU's but they would do the job and you might even find a "stand" that you could mount in your truck.

You could have your PDFs printed at a local printshop. It won't be cheap, but it needs to be done right on maybe 24# (60#) printed duplex to get it down to about a 2 1/2 in thick book (500 sheets). Have them drill 3 holes and drop it into a notebook. Over time, you could gather all of them and get them into paper form eventually.

On the other hand, searching a thousand page book with "search" is ever so much better than thumbing pages. :)

I bought a cheap Toughbook for the same reason! Add a cheap mouse (quicker than the touch pad and easier than the stylus and touch screen) and I have a pretty indestructible version of the TMs. At least until I can find the paper versions too!

So does #10 have to come out to get the pulley off? I have looked in the TM’s and it’s not clear to me. I don’t know how you would get it out. TM’s said put it in a soft jaw vise but that was for the normal nut holding pulley on

People jumped right from The book paper versions of the TM right to thier phones.
Phones are NG for TM's and iPods do not do a good job with PDF files although mine works fine.
Most aircraft flying pilots use the iPad for navigation and checklists works fine for that but they lack good support for PDF files.
Just go get a laptop or notebook flavor and put all the TM's in it.
TM's are very easy to search. in the PDF format, You will find what you are loking for in a few seconds.

All the Deuce series of 12 books are only 2.6GB and the newer series 361 of 5 books is only 3.1mB

TM's of entire books is very easy and quick to search with keywords.

All my HMMWV TM's are only 186mB so far and note that all my TM's fit on a thumbdrive easily and can be searched from there. One can move a thumbdrive to any puter.

If you do nothing else just get all the PDF TM's applicable to your vehical and put them on a thumbdrive,
I use only SanDisk, as most anybody would let you see what you need on thier puter. Pods don't have thumbdrive inputs but every flavor puter does.

I see nice old Dells going for under a hundred bucks, think of it as a TOOL YOU NEED.

#10 unscrews like a regular nut.....probably work best if alt was out and use an impact gun to remove...or if alt
still in truck with belt on...should unscrew.

I was able to get the big outer nut off and once it was loose I didn’t have anything to hold on to and it was turning the engine over and it made me wonder if it was reverse threads. Definitely needs an impact and I’m dreading taking that beast off.

I was looking at some Black Friday laptops yesterday but I was concerned about having enough storage but from what you said about pdf size a 300 or 400 dollar laptop should be more than enough. I’m not sure about used route with the prices of new last year models. I have a Mac but it won’t let me get on the web and it will cost more to fix it than it’s worth. Just looked at the link you posted and I would be willing to take a chance at that price point. They are all sold but I will search for others. Thank you so much

I wouldn't load up the storage drive with TM's if it is that small. You will need that space for the Windows swap file and to keep the operating system happy. Look for a USB connection on anything you buy. Then you won't be restricted on drive space... I have a couple terabyte USB sticks and they are pretty fast (transfer rate) too so don't feel limited to a small internal disk. More to carry around, but an external disk drive is another option. More space for less than a stick...

I’m looking now and it’s pretty overwhelming if you have no idea what you are looking at. I would like to have one with enough storage to hold them all. I seen a few with 500gb and 1tb of storage and that should be plenty.
What is the window swap file you said that I will need? Hahaha I’m stupid with this stuff

Agreed. That would be plenty of space for sure.

I forgot to answer up about the Windows Swap File... That is temporary space used on the hard drive to "swap" a program into and out of memory. You can run several things at one time, but most often there are things on your computer that are "open" but not actively running. Swap Space is allocated as needed by the Windows (yeah, Mac too) operating system.

You only have so much RAM (the memory that you run programs in) and from time to time, Windows just needs more memory than you have. Swap Space (a block of memory created on your hard disk drive) holds things in limbo awaiting the call from the operating system to pull them out.

Hope I gave you a decent description.

Big thing is that all of it is automatic. Having a larger drive or one that isn't almost full is the only real concern you should have.

I just put a new Gates Green Fleet belt on. Noise is gone but it went away the last time I changed it. It can’t be a bad pulley if it goes away and the tensioner seems like its strong. I spun all the pulleys and they seem to be good. Pulley Alignment looks to be straight as can be. I will find out in a few hundred miles if it’s fixed or not. The new belt that I removed did have the bends still in it from how it was packaged after 200 miles or so. Don’t know if that would cause an issue.

I now have 769 miles and 569 since I put the second new belt on. I’m still squeak free.I used the gates hd green belt or fleet and I was kinda disappointed that it wasn’t a cogged belt. I don’t know why it should make a difference but it did. I was getting ready to replace pulleys and generator clutch belt tensioner…. Glad I tried a different belt.
