putting a CTD into a m1008

I have am1008 coming that has no motor. I bought a 6.5 and 4L 80 E out of a wrecked 98 3500. My plan was to just drop in the 6.5 and trans altogether. A friend down south says he can get his hands on early 90s Dodge 1 ton 4 x 4 that is a manual. I would think the transmission is a nv4500.

my question is. I'm thinking about selling the 6.5 And going for the cummins. I know the 6.5 would be easier to put it. Should probably say I just bought my first welder. I would think there would be some fabricating involved. Never done any really. Just very minor stuff. so basically I want to know what I'm in for. Not sure if I want to use the auto where the manual. Any advice would be great.

Cummins 12v with the p-pump would be badass. You can make good power with not much cash too. I would start at destroked.com they got the universal motor mounts that your gonna need. Its only three wires on the 12v to make it run. From what Ive seen its not too bad to do.

Diesel Power also has a write up in the magazine on their Doomsday Diesel, where they swap a 12v into a late 80s suburban. They back theirs with a 4l80e though. The trans im not too ssure what to expect, maybe new mounts and crossmember for it.

Check this article out of off road awhile back. They put a nv4500 behind the 6.2 and updated the t-case as well. One thing about your buddies is if it is early 90's cummins it more than likely has the getrag tranny not the nv4500. Nv4500 came into the trucks in 1994.

An early 90s would also have the Bosch rotary pump. Even so, with a 4.56 axle ratio, you would have stump pulling power. 89 to early 91 trucks were not inner-cooled, that would be my engine of choice for a M1008, or a 4BT to get more room. This is a project I would like to do as well, the 6BT I found is a 97 with P pump, but I would much rather have a 89 to early 91 in front of my 400 for my application. Glen

Keep it overfilled and it should be fine. 5W30 synthetic.
