Hello, all. Hoping for some insight.

A YouTuber recently purchased a modified 1984 M939 for $70k with intentions of dropping another $30k to renovate the interior for road trips. His fan base is having much fun roasting him for it, arguing a $100k RV would have been a better purchase.

He typically live streams his road trips, but the poor suspension and loud interior make streaming from it nearly impossible. Other issues include having to pop the hood to start it.

(Video includes mature language and inept individuals)

Less than 24 hours after picking it up, it broke down. The seller is supposedly fixing it and addressing the aforementioned issues. My question for you; how wise was this purchase? Did he overpay? Should the M939's poor safety record be a concern?

The seller should make him read the -10 TM before he lets him back in it.

M939's poor safety record ???? Anything is only as good as it is maintained. That stands true with people trucks planes etc, etc ….. One of the most reliable platforms out there...IMHO

Before the dude got pissed and started deleting criticism, someone posted a video about the M939 having brake issues that caused an inordinate amount of fatal crashes prior to the Army retrofitting them. We don't know if this received it, being an '84 model, or what the weight of the short bus section is.

It has ABS you can see the idiot light in the video to the right of the starter switch

No reason to touch the battle mode switch that is only if you plan on nothing turning the truck off or your alternator has quit working and need the truck to move on
