Questions about the IP in my deuce.

I am having some trouble with the injector pump in my deuce. The first issue in the stiffness of the go pedal. I have tracked it down to the piece the linkage connects to. I have loosened it quite a bit, but it is still very stiff. The other (and I am not sure if this is because of the IP) the truck does not want to start up right away. I have to stay on the throttle for a while and rev it before it will stay running on its own. Once it does it runs fine. Are these simple issues or am I looking and signs of worse things to come. Also, how do I repair these issues. I sure would like to get the fender back on the truck and use it.

which end of the linkage are you refering to? the pump end should move fairly easily, may it be bent? starting is based on many factors, good compression is a must. good injectors is a must. i have almost never seem a full set of good injectors from a used engine, some just don't spray the right pattern. also a worn plunger in the ip head will make initial cold running problematic. first and easiest is to be sure you have 3 to 5 psi at final filter with just acc on before starting, and 20 psi cranking.

The piace on the IP the linkage connects to is very stiff. I have gotten to free up a bit, but I still cannot move it with my hand.

first i would pull the compensator from the top to see that it is clean, oily and no rust inside. if that is ok you need to look at TM 9-2910-226-34, page 3-40. i would remove the lever, then the cover and see if that fixes it. if not, remove the idle and high idle stop screws and the piece on the shaft that contacts them. mark positions first. if shaft is still tight i can look at one of my junker pumps and give some advise on replacing the shaft assy. it should be fairly easy, but i have not been there for years..........

I am a little worried about taking any bolts out becuase they are wired with a seal. I figured that was done becuase removing them would cause more harm than good. If I am wrong please feel free to carrect me.

A work in progress with a simple fix. Several people who have more experiance with it have told me so. But I have not had the time nor the experiance to work it out. I have made a lot of prgress however, at least now I can drive it around. If we had went through with a trade I would have made the repair a priority and had it done by now.

LOL oh no you took it the wrong way I'm sure you would have kept your word and I have never thought anything else . What I implied was it wouldn't have happened until I was half way home and in the middle of no where . You don't know my luck.....:razz: I'm still looking for a Deuce but have had several people fail to follow through on their promise to buy my SUV . I'll still trade you a even trade after you work the bugs out LOL,,,,,,,,

If I knew more about the IP's on these trucks I would have already had it done. Normally I would just take it apart and get it working again. But I am afraid to do that with one I am not familiar with. I could make it worse with out realizing it.

I was looking at the exploded view in an on line TM and I think you are correct. I guess I am having a hard time getting over the fear of having a large truck I cannot move in my yard. Any idea as to the cost of a seal kit or where I can get one?
