I don’t often complain about corporate interests however this one is egregious.
The HMMWV ECV/REV M83P2 steering gear produced by R.H. Sheppard (Spicer CV) cannot be effectively serviced in the aftermarket. Sheppard protects their remanufacturing business aggressively and will not source replacement parts other than a seal kit.
Common replacement parts like bearings cannot be sourced. Case in point, sector shaft bearings are a simple design that could be easily sourced. In this case Shaeffler (INA) will not sell the bearing aftermarket full stop. It’s a protected OEM bearing.
Way to gouge the taxpayers and stifle aftermarket support. FU Sheppard/Bendix
Here’s the part number and rough dimensions.
ID 1.75”
OD 2.3”
W 1”
On a brighter note, the M83 seal kit from power steering seals is excellent. It covers the M83P2 gear as well.
