Farewell my fellow MVer to that great Motor Pool in the sky where wrenches never rust and IPs never break.

You might find this interesting. I travel from north Utah to Nevada several times each year. The mangled remains of this A3 were parked in a wrecker yard, right off I-15. In plain sight. I stopped by several times to see how much it would take to buy the truck. You know, move it off the highway to a better resting place.

Never could catch anyone there. Anyway- I stopped by last week and the truck was gone! YEA!

Yesterday, I stopped over at Boyce Equipment and there was the A3. Boyce bought it (and can make good use of many of the parts). First time I got a real close look. Terrible destruction.

Anyway, the truck is in a better place. RIP.

It cretainly was a tragedy. It shows you how much your life can be in the hands of careless people.
I hope his family is doing well. all things considered of course.

Every time I start out to make a recovery I think about this thread and the great loss to his family, I say a prayer for god to watch over me and those how tag along and make sure my heads on strait when I flip the switch to start the engine. I often talk about this tread to new members to let them know that if these trucks are ever in a bad accedent we will more then likely kill or be killed if things go bad. The story isn't to scare new members away from the trucks and that its to let them know that we have to know, and entisapate as best as we can what maybe ahead of us. As well as to make them think about what steps THEY would have to take to keep others safe. I personally would run my truck strait off the road IF I HAD TOO, to save the lives of those in front of me. With gods good graces I haven't had to do that yet and never will have to but the thoughts are never far from thought when I'm driving my MV.

I couldn't agree more. I ran a couple dozen loads of gravel at 20,000 #'s per with exactly the same in mind. I constantly said to myself "if the brakes give out, or some one pulls out in front of me.....where is my out". I drove slow, pumped the brakes well ahead of each intersection, and looked for "outs" on my route.

I built a "sedan catcher" bumper for the M817 for the "silly's" who pull out in front of us....as they can stop a whole lot quicker than we can.

We have a tendency to want to think of these trucks (and anyone who might be riding in them) as being invincible.

This sad incident drives home the fact that nothing could be further from the truth. :(

I am saddened to hear this. While I don't know many of us personally, every time I hear of a SS member being hurt or killed, it saddens me in a way that doesn't happen with the average news article. I feel a link to all of you as kindred spirits and the loss of any of us hurts.

My deepest condolences to James' family and to his friends and community in general.
