By me anyway. I ran it over to my favorite AC/Radiator shop. They called me to say there were multiple problems that should be addressed. I inquired new or rebuild of him. He said I wouldn't find this quality today. Definitely rebuild. Quote: $254.00. I know they'll do a great job. I'm taking my heater core over when I pick up my radiator. It's been sitting on a shelf for two years since I stuck the aluminum Napa one in. Not a good core. But I seem to remember reading that these aluminum cores are too thin and allow cold air to bypass them instead of going through the core and getting properly heated.

Yesterday I put a new water pump in my suburban. I discovered it leaking as I left the radiator shop to drop off my radiator for the M1009. While I'm in coolant mode this summer, I'll see about installing the rebuilt heater core as well.

Note: I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger on that Radiator Pressure Test Kit at HFT yesterday. It might have found a leak, but I can't braze that well anyway. So taking it to the professionals was the right call this time.

black oil in radiator lines?

Related to my radiator failing. When I pulled the lines from the radiator, on the passenger side, the lowest one bled some pretty black oil.
This was from the stainless steel line. So I'm guessing an aux oil cooler. Are these reliably flushed. The radiator is at the shop now, so they clean hat up, but what about the lines in the blazer.

Not really sure what your asking, but the oil lines will also get flushed out when(if) the dip the rad. What I'd do before installing it would be to blow out the oil lines with compressed air. Don't try to fill them up with 120PSI!! just blow em out and make sure there's no foreign objects

$254 is a nice chunk of money but really not that bad for that radiator. A few years ago I bought a new aluminum/plastic one from the place I worked list was about $400! IIRC I think I paid 2something (wholesale) so I think you did fine.

Thanks for the replies. I installed the rebuilt. They did a great job as expected. Even put a fresh coat of black on it. I dropped off my original heater core. I guess I should swap it in asap- beats having to do it in the winter.

What have y'all paid for a H-core rebuild?
