Radiator troubles

Today, I was checking the antifreeze on the truck. I didn't know if it was low or not. I added a little to it, but don't flame me...I filled it up to the bottom of the neck. I know I should have read the TM to see how much to add, but I was too lazy to go check:sad: Anyways, I drove it to town, and when I got to where I was going antifreeze was coming out of the cap..quite a bit. I'm wondering if when I filled the radiator up cold, if when the truck got hot that it started expanding and pouring it out. But why is it coming out of the cap? Is it causing enough pressure from overfilling to cause the spring to release the coolant?

On a side note, I was digging in the truck and found the original sales paper...some maintenance history in 2006..a paper that said when it was decomissioned and a floppy disk..Not sure what's on the floppy disk yet though!

You may have a bad cap. It should have an over flow tube. Now some trucks do not like to be that full. That is where the TM says it should be thought. One of my truck the level stays right there, but another one like's to be about 1/2 gal lowwer.:?

It shold come out the overflow tube, but many are unknowingly plugged with corrosion and come out the cap as described. Keep an eye on it. A $10 cap is cheap insurance, and worth keeping a spare. I've seen them on ebay for like $4 on occassion.

:ditto: Can't really see were you could have hurt anything. Blow through that overflow tube and see to it that it is open. Recheck the coolant level, twist on a new cap and you should be good to go.
