Re-decking M871, what material?

I am actually use reclaimed pallets for my kids fort and I've found most here to be pine.

I read on another forum that asphalt paint fence is a good coating for the deck boards and acts as a resistant barrier between the treated lumber and the metal frame.

Well I found treated southern yellow pine. So I'm getting some.

Plan is to coat each milled board with asphalt fence paint and secure with claw style deck cleats.

I'll post results when i get done, maybe some along the way. Contemplating POR-15 coating the rails, and painting the overall trailer.

I think you will be fine with the yellow pine as you will not be hauling any tracked equipment. As I said earlier, my smaller trailer has a pine deck and it's still in good shape after about 6 years.:grd:
