Re-doing the Troop Seats

I want to re-do the wood on my troop seats. I bought this deuce a while ago and the seats are all full of slivers cause it sat out in the weather. They really need replaced. Any recommendations? Wood, where to get it etc.

My seats were a mix of wood and fiberglass. The wood was completely rotted so I purchased some treated pine and ripped it to the correct width. got the wood at the local big box store. Then installed it all with new stainless bolts. Haven't had any issues and the wood took paint with no issues. I've heard of others using oak or cedar to make their boards. I don't know what the original wood was.

Original was oak I think. Ok thanks, I didn't know how pine would work out. Did you paint them green? or Camo? or did you just stain them?

I painted mine with gillespie paint. 34079 forest green. Then i added the three color camo. It is the top board on each side.

The original wood was Oak. You might contact John Tennis (JATONKA) he sells new oak top bows and uprights, and may have some troop seat wood available. John is one of the most helpful people in the MV business. If he doesn't have them he probably knows someone who does. 518-424-8455

The original wood was WHITE OAK to be picky! When I restored my Deuce I stripped the troop seats down to nothing and started from there, all metal parts were sanded primed and repainted then I was pricing out the white oak to replace the in bad shape original and found the price at the time about 40% higher than red oak, well its all going to be painted OD anyway so I opted for the red oak and got all the boards sanded and prepped for paint. After painting the boards OD I installed all the metal bracket assemblies in the bed of the truck and set each board in and marked the hole locations then took the board out and drilled the holes in their exact location and at that time I bolted that board in place. I did this for every board on the seats and it worked out great and the fit is perfect!

I did this for the the troop seat head boards. They're the same dimension for the the seat boards.
I think the red oak will hold up just as good as the original white oak.
