Hi, Was wondering if anybody out there knows about how to remove rear wheel bearings from my 1953 m38a1? I have taken off the dust plate, but cannot remove the stud plate. it looks to have a keyway but not sure if that is removal able. also there looks like a grease fitting on top of the housing. Does this mean its a grease gun fitting? Not sure. The front set went great. also have a question on my 3 speed trans. in order to shift from 2 back to 1 the jeep has almost got to be stopped in order to shift. all other shifting is fine. Thanks for any help in these to problems.-Gabe

Yes, the hubs are removable... Yes, those bearings can be greased without disassembly...

You may want to visit our "Technical Manuals" section, third row "Korean War to Vietnam War Vehicles TMs", and down to "TMs for the M38". Then select "TM9-8014" which has all the info you are looking for. (Section XX, 216. (3), Page 259)

Are you double clutching when you downshift?
