Remote Brake Fluid Reservoir

Yea, that is the plan.

Plug the 1/8 outlet on the master cylinder cap, and then plug the vent line somehow. Would not want to leave it open to the air.

Just was curious, as those instructions that were posted were not complete. Which really grinds my gears. If you are going to take the time to do it, why leave out steps?

The author says to remove the vent line and discard it. My guess is on his deuce, it wasn't interconnected with anything.

The 1/8th outlet on the master cylinder cap gets a 90 degree NPT fitting, then a hose attaches to it which runs to your new remote reservoir.
Is that what you meant by "plug the 1/8th outlet on the master cylinder cap"?

It is definitely a good idea to plug the cap into a vent line. I just got done rebuilding my entire brake system because it got water in it and it probably came from that cap. Had problems with my brakes dragging. Well that's because the brand new master cylinder I put in a few years ago had rust and rusted the differential port shut. aua

Good Morning folks Because I am from ND (its cold) I installed my heater kit for my Deuce IN the cab NOT in the engine bay, it installs very nicely under the glove box and it a very nice way to do, point it into the diverter and it installed very nicely this way, if its cold where you live this will allow the heater to operate a whole lot more efficiently than if you locate it under the hood Good luck!

That's what I like about my M45 530C fire truck. It has a Dual heater ( two blowers) in the cab. Nice.

Installed the remote brake reservoir on my M813 this afternoon, the master cylinder had a single vent cap (mushroom) ,
hardest part was seating the grommet in the .5" hole in the hole.

I really like the couple examples here of remote reservoirs capable of holding pressure to assist in bleeding the breaks. The disadvantage of both seems to be the need for opaque PVC for the reservoir, so no at a glance way to see the fluid level. Are there any transparent tanks that could hold 20-30psi?

Pictures should do it. It is all stuff I saved up. Packrat kind of a thing, you know, shiny, they threw it away so it is mine, kind of thing.

but it could have been assembled with Harbor Fright stuff and accomplish like results. Just a gauge class from a machine and some fittins.

Your just like me ! When any shop I worked at would through stuff away I would go and scrounge through it . I would really score big at the metal fabricator shop I worked at for 8 years. The boss would get a "cleaning bug" up his butt and have the entire crew stop working and have them just throw everything away that was on the floors. They would get the big swipe brooms out and clean everything. Later I would go back at lunch time and go through all the garbage and pick out the stainless steel bolts that where tossed out. One time I got two five gallon buckets of bolts ! One year he went through the metal storage racks and threw out "tons" of steel angle iron, flat bar and plate. I asked If I could just load this up myself and he said "as long as it was gone by the end of the day " he didn't care. So I called up my dad and said bring the truck down and we loaded up 2 tons of metal. I still have some pieces left in my storage container to this day. Mostly pieces that are just to big to really use like 1/2" thick 4" angle iron. The rest got used for projects over the years.

I installed mine kid I purchased from big mikes last week on my day off work. I am going to go back in and shorten the hose a little bit to avoid air bubbles in the "high spots" of the hose.

Just got my kit from big mikes installed today. I ended up mounting it in the rear driver side corner of the cab so I can see it. Now I just need to figure out what brake fluid is in the system currently. Looks like DOT3, and seems to mix with water, but I'm surprised DOT 3 would be in the system.

Mine had dot 5 , but it was yellow instead of blue like the stuff I have. Could easily be mistaken for aged dot3. Not sure how to tell the difference other than viscosity.

Take a sample of the brake fluid and try and add a drop of water to it. If it's DOT 5 then it will appear to puddle on top of the fluid. It will not mix. In DOT 3 the water will mix in.

I worked on a truck recently with a remote res kit. I did not install it but I noticed it took a very long time to drain in the master and seemed to be getting air locked. Then I loosened the line at the master cap and fluid came out no prob.
i would question how the air in the master works it's way back to the remote reservoir.

This splash plate should be removed.
Removal of it worked for me......................
