removing the mechanical fan

Has anyone removed the mechanical fan on the 230 and replaced with a hydraulic or electric fan? I have an extra hydraulic fan from a Jeep WJ with the PS pump that drives it along with a few electric fans from the scrap yard. Living in Maine the heat doesn't get all that bad and since mine sees a lot of road use, that big honking fan is robbing me of ~20HP all the time when it only needs to run ~10% of the time. Figured before I go and pull it out I'd see if anyone has done it before or if there is a good reason not to.
