I am installing a locker into my front axel on my M35. Anybody know the torque specs for the cap bolts and carrier halves? I have looked and looked and can't find the TM with it in it.

TM 9-2320-209-34-2-1, Chap. 10 gives the re-assembly stuff. Manual page 10-90 (adobe reader page 490 of 772) doesn't have carrier torque specs., just tight and then to the line-up of the safety wire holes. Page 10-95 (adobe reader page 496 of 772) gives torque on the cap bolts as 300ft/lbs. Read the entire section though (490 to 497 of 772) as there's a little more to reassembly than just dropping the carrier in and bolting it down.

Cap bolt. 200 ft lbs and snapped. 300# sounds kind of a lot. I know somebody had added lockers. What dd you torque your cap bolts to.

Sorry about the snapped bolt. I looked again in another -34 (TM 9-2320-361-34), adobe reader page 250 of 776 and it's saying 116 to 149 ft/lbs... quite a spread from 300. The -34s are where disassemby, repair, and reassembly stuff is covered.

According to SAE bolt torque specs for grade 8 bolts, plain:

Cap bolts = 9/16"x12 (coarse thread): 153 ft.lbs.
Carrier halves = 9/16"x18 (fine thread):172 ft.lbs.

Thought about that but it was a PITA and still don't have it put back together. Don't really want to take it out again.
