Cool info. If anyone needs soda blasting done in northern CA I have a friend that is very reasonable and does excellent work. CARC is a little time consuming but he gets it done. I've got a M151A1 at his place right now, I'll post some photos when he gets it done.

Hey DS,

I've been sandblasting for ever, looks like a beach outside my shop But whats "soda" blasting? I've seen the latest craze which is "dry ice" pellets, but never soda blasting?
Can ya fill me in some more

da_sgt, done lots of sandblasting myself...I try to farm that job out to someone, you always end up with sand in areas of your body ya never knew were there
The thing with sand is it gets embedded in every nook and cranny. If you don't get it all out you end up with the perfect "sponge" and we know what happens next...rust
With the soda, it's not exactly baking soda but very very similar. This stuff is actually quite a bit harder than baking soda and has jagged edges so it eats through the paint. It also leaves a smoother finish than sand so it works perfect on fiberglass and aluminum (HMMWV) Bill says you don't even have to mask off glass though because it won't pit the glass...we'll let him try that on his own rigs
He does mostly hot rods.I sand blasted my M151A2 almost ten years ago and still get sand coming out of places! Can't have that with a hot rod that has a nice fancy interior. The beauty of the sode is that it is water soluble so can easily be washed away!

Dieselsmoke, boy your right about gettin' sand in place's it don't belong, but it saves on toilet paper So what's the cost of the "soda"? I've been blasting with 70 grit and never had a problem with a rough finish! Must be all in the technique
