Sorry, silly bugger is here, to many events this weekends to get on the PC.

I am looking at a Scorpion so hence the ' who has one' question.

Being a Brit I figured I should at least investigate.

So I ask, how avaliable are spares etc, how reliable?

I already found the Alvis forum and I registered over there?

Again, sorry for the tardy reply

Martin.

I would say from a standpoint of cost, it would be better to get an entirely refurbished unit to begin with. I have a wonderful supplier across the pond that did a full rebuild for me. That way I only have to MAINTAIN the vehicle and the bleeding is minimized to maintenance items and tracks. Parts are plentiful across the pond but the REAL pain ($$) comes from shipping.

I LOVE mine!

PS, I married a Limey myself.

I found a refurbished one years (20 or so) ago for 13,500. Luckily my dad never told me about a savings account he had in my name back then.

Had about 60 acres of woods to run round on.

I'd expect for one barely acceptable to cost at least $20,000 US. A pristine one probably twice that. Shipping would best be accomplished inside a 20' container, that way spare parts could come too. Also, it keeps the poor baby out of the hands of some union thugs at the RO-RO terminal, been there, never again. The last 20' container cost $3000 from Limeville to my door on the Left Coast of the US. You need an export permit on the other end and apply with the ATF on this end. My lastest information suggests that the guns, even demilled, are not allowed. I could be mistaken.

I've had three. Take the advice of getting a good one up front. Parts are available but expensive and Form 6 required on each big shipment. There's a Belgian one listed on Khaki Corps. right now. About 15 miles from me in SW Ohio.

Stuart, a little out of touch on pricing; the last few really nice ones I've seen sold for over $75K. KAA-CHING

Alan, I'm talking about prices on the OTHER side of the pond, not the prices here. Prices of them here are certainly at a premium. I wouldn't sell mine for $100K, but then again it is one of my favorite toys.

Also, I am not sure these are road legal in MA and a trailer is a must regardless. I have a few candidates as a tow truck, the H1 is probably too light so the Deuce or one of the 5 Tons should be up to the task. Stopping is always the hard part!

I use an '08 F450, the H1 is too light for sure! Hauling one with a deuce would be a bad idea as well, by the time you add a trailer you'd be WAY in excess of TWICE of the deuces tow rating. My truck is rated to tow 24,500 and I exceed that with my very heavy trailer and the Scorpion.

I was thinking I could use this but may need a different stratergy!

Perfect task for the 10 ton! Too bad it's so slow. Let me know if you need help with it when you get it. I'd love to check one of those out.
