Build an adapter from the HMMWV to the trailer and put 24V bulbs or omni volt LED lights.

That's probably the best way to do it provided you own the trailer and it has surge brakes.

I've built adapters for people over the years and think they're a thing of the past today. The multivoltage LEDs that are out there are a much better option and will outlive any incandescent lamp made and you'll never have to open up a lamp housing to change one after the first time. That's the only way to go.
The other advantage they have is is that you don't have to know anything about wiring and connectors as long as you can drive a screwdriver!
