Can you use a shifter assembly meant for the 4L80 an put it in a HMMWV that still has the 3L80 that currently doesn't have park but will as soon as the parts in the trans get replaced. Im just not sure if you can put that shifter in then adjust it to have the park function work when it also has the detent position for OD, or if OD actually ends up being D when put in a HMMWV that has the 3L80, or...? I just thought if it can work an if I ever wanted to swap in a 4spd auto later the shifter would already be there.

The three speed trans has uneven detents and so does it's shifter. The four speed trans has even ones and so does it's shifter so you can use it to shift a three speed trans, but you have to go by the feel of the detents that are inside of the trans, because they won't all match up to a detent in the shifter. The length of the lower levers of the four speed shifter are longer too so your linkages may not work without modification.

That link is broken -- can someone provide an updated link to the article on adding park to 3-spd?

You need to look for a shifter from a 91-92 civy Hummer if you want to add park to your 3L80. The spacing is wrong for the 4L80E shifter with a 3L80 trans. Adding park is a simple task and can be done in a couple of hours without dropping the trans. Here's how it's done: http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=263221
