Will a battery arking to the battery box cause all the light bulbs to burn out
Just to add to this - truck was rolling down the freeway at about 55 in rain with lights on. M105 in tow. Windshield was leaking some allowing water behind dash. Temp gauge EXPLODED and truck lost power and died. Ended up blocking the slow lane since there was a sound wall and no shoulder. Soldier B put out emergancy triangles and directed traffic while soldier A started disconnecting the harness to the temp gauge. After removing the temp gauge wiiring truck would still not start. After removing all wires under the dash the truck started.

Soldier A tossed soldier B's soda out of the truck since he spilled it while pulling wires. Soldier B loaded up and trip continued.

After driving home another 15 miles Soldier B discovered the battery had slid, shorted out and put a dime sized hole in the step/battery cover.

The M105 trailer was moved to another truck to continue its trip while the 5 ton was parked at its new home. The M105 now had no tail lights or stop lights. Trailer was fine upon starting the trip except for a bad right turn signal.

5 ton was checked and now had no lights except for front markers.

Sounds like the short, caused the voltage regulator to sense low voltage. It would then increase output to charge the batteries, then, when the metal burned out(arcing), the alternator output was so high, the voltage may have surged enough to burn out the bulbs.

I have seen this same thing with a truck with "open" cells in the battery(bad battery).

I wonder if the alternator or voltage regulator was damaged? More trouble shooting required.
