I am going tomorrow to pickup a snow plow system, blade, mount, pusher bars,bumper, and pto winch. It is on an REO at the moment and it is pretty ragged out that the truck only would be good for a scrapyard. It is a 10ft wide plow. They used it around this lake in SW Montana to plow the roads and what not.

I am looking to mount it on my 62 m-61 due to the fact that I recently moved to the mountains of western Montana and I live approx 6 miles off the county road on the side of the mountain. It is a nice wide 25ft road coming up but its graveled and myself and the neighbors have to maintain it.

I have 2 F250s but they are the older IDI diesels and are very front heavy and havent had much luck with them in winter so I am thinking in the deep snow that accumulates up here and the distance between houses and the county road it would be more suitable for the 5 ton to do the pushing.

I know the multifuels dont like the cold weather but it will be in a heated garage all winter which I know will help till it gets to operating temp. I am sure I will have to add some tractor weights across the back of the frame to keep the weight down on the rear axles and keep from slipping. I currently am runing 11.00 NDTs but I just picked up a set of combat rims from an auction and just need to get 2 more. Also a guy over the mountain is selling 50-70% tread 16.00s for $55 a tire if I come pick them up.

Would I be better off sticking to the dual NDTs for the winter and just chaining them up? They r pretty weather checked and some are worn out, lots of nicks. Or would the 16.00s be ok with a set of chains? I saw a guy on ebay with a set of 2 for $250 each.

As for the plow, I added a picture of it. Like i said it currently is on a REO and it is operated by the pto winch and it runs off like a snatchblock setup to lift the blade up and down. I will do away with the PTO winch since it is pretty rusted up and I am looking for a way to mount my electric industrial 12,000lb ramsey electric winch with the fairlead facing up to the sky coming in from under the bumper and bolting it to the bumper square up.

I am sure I will have to fab of the pusher bars that go back to the leaf springs cause I am sure they will not fit the 5 ton. Does anyone else have any ideas for me as for this plow? Or has anyone else had anything to do with one of these setups in the past

I can add more pictures tomorrow after I get it cut off. Or if anyone else would be interested in the specs on this setup so they would like to make their own let me know.

Do the 5 tons do well as pushing snow compared to a 2 1/2ton? Or would I be better off pushing snow with my pickups and just getting a nice boss v blade?

I also have about 1500lbs of tractor flat weight plates I could make a mounting system to hold them on the rear. I also am going to be putting in a 100gal fuel transfer tank behind the cab for added weight.(water,diesel,wmo) It has a drain as well so thats a plus.

you want to put about 2 ton on the back of that thing. let the tires down on air ,maybe 30 in the back and 40 in the front. definitley chains if you got them. the ndt's are prone to slide sideways but going straight you won't stop them .i've been plowing for 6 yrs now with a monster 11 ft blade , but it's been for a town here in MA. haven't had any trouble with the ndt's. unstoppable.

I want to put a plow on my deuce... That would be awesome. I would only be plowing some neighbors driveways and would hardly ever use it seeing I have my jeep. But the couple times a year I would use it to push the snowbanks back would be priceless :eek:)

Got the plow back to my place today and is one heavy system. It came apart into 5 big sections and 2 flat plates for mounting to the frame. I did some work today on it and got the pusher and vehicle mounting part measured out and did some cutting to get it mounted on the truck was pretty easy.

Had to cut a small piece of the bumper out on the outside of the frame to allow the 8" wide push frame to come up to mount to the frame. I am going to have to get a 30" piece of steel plate for the rear pusher brackets to bolt to the frame due to the ones that came with it being about 5" to short. It is 1/2" plate as well. with 1/2" bolts.

I am going to mount the pusher mounting plate to the frame with 6 1/2" grade 8 bolts. Which should be able to hold the plow and pushing im going to do. I had to order 4 1" x 8" long and 10" long hitch pin bolts for mounting the plow angle part and the plow for easily mounting and unmounting.

a few more pics of everything. I will have the pusher bumper done tomorrow and then ill be working on adding the 12k ramsey electric winch. I think I made quite a steal on this plow since the guy went down to $250 for the whole thing. the blade is 10' wide and 3'2" tall.

Did a little work today and got the pusher mount bolted to the bumper with 6 grade 8 1/2" bolts on each side. I moved the eyelet mounting bracket over about 1" to the inside. and resecured it with 2 1/2" bolts. So the roller is now attached. Will be working on mounting the winch tomorrow or monday (deer season opened today so im a little pre occupied)

Update as to snow plows :

I have located 7 more of these plow/mount systems that are mounted on 1950s REO 2 1/2 tons. They will include the 10ft wide x 3'2" tall blade, pusher mounting system, winch roller top mount, and the quick release and manual turn plate. All of which is pictured above. The guy is interested in selling the whole kits for $500 - $700 each. He may take $500 each if I can find enough people to buy them. If interested PM me.

I have looked into adding a plow to my five ton. I think you are going to find that a 10 ft wide plow is going to be a little narrow for a five ton. It is fine if you are plowing with the blade straight and in a straight line, but I don't think you will be able to angle it much without your front tire getting in the snow. All the guys that plow up here in Mass. recommend a 11 ft plow at least.

anything over 10ft 6inches wide in montana requires oversized load signs front and rear. with revolving lights. even applies to snow plows. The permit go over 8ft 6inches wide is $75 a year as well. So you have to buy the permit no matter what. I guess you could always paint OVERSIZED load onto the blade. Anything over 12' wide you have to have an escort truck and an additional permit.

I might be able to find a bigger blade if it is needed or maybe adding a section to this one. We get almost 200inches of snowfall a year here.

Truck might come in handy though when the freak storms come thru and the state snow plows are stuck on the highways or in the medians.

I thought about adding a snowplow to my deuce not for snow, but for non driving tourists. Plow those idiots right off the roads.

Yea it gets to be pretty bad up here. One issue with it is that alot of the roads where i live are only 10ft or 11ft wide in someplaces(old logging roads) anyways.

And as for the plow. Yes I want to plow some people from alberta off the road a few times even in the middle of the summer :D

What town are you near? I am trying to get my 813 running right so I can mount a plow on it. I'' be plowing 7 miles of dirt road up to my place, starting at 5000' and climbing up to 8000'. Have you found a source for chains? I have started looking for some to fit my 14.00 20 tires, but its been slim pickings.

I am near Kalispell. My plow actually came from the Georgetown Lake FD. There are chains posted on here in the classified sections. You will have to make some sort of rear weight system for the axles to even have some traction on your rear even with chains. I have some extra 14.00s if your interested in some as well. I will be running either my new 11.00 NDCCs or some 16.00s that I have a source for in GF

I thought about putting smaller tires back on for the winter and chaining it up good. How much for a new set of 11.00 NDCC on rims? I have no problem with weight in the bed. I've been snowmobiling up for the past 3 winters and logging my beetle killed trees, so I have thousands of logs laying around that I need to haul down. The road is too steep and windy for logging trucks. I have a friend up here who is an awesome welder and fabricatror if you need help with mounts. I have a 10' DOT blade that I plan on mounting and he was looing at ways to make the mounts work.

Mine came off an M211 so It mounted right up to my M-61. just had to drill the holes in the front frame. The only thing I had to get was some longer rear support plates from 2' to 3' plates to mount to the frame. I have to get my winch mounted with a steel plate mounted to operate the plow. Ive got 8 new NDCC on 5 ton split rims I would take $200 a tire/wheel combo. I attached some pictures of the tires. The 14.00s I have 3 of that are Michelin XL. I have 16.00s for $120 a tire. Update : Got a good price on some ecology blocks today from a place here in town. 4ft long, 2ft wide and 2 ft tall and weight 2,850lbs each. I will be just adding the one infront of my gooseneck hitch but I might have to add a cross frame in the open area. I would like to add another either on top of the one I am going to add or behind it, but with my gooseneck hitch I still want to be able to pull my trailer up the mountain to get firewood with it and with the 2ft height it wont hookup to the trailer. So i might look at double stacking but I am thinking I wont be able to cornedr for crap then if I need to turn it sharp. So I also thought of buying the block then taking the concrete saw and chopping it down to 1ft tall. I marked it with the paint program but yeah it looks like my 12yr old drew it. Will the weight over mostly the center and front axle be ok? Or should I move the GN hitch back and move the block further back? I will be running 16.00s and will have chains if needed. Plus the 10ft blade up front.
