I am sure like anything, there's a million variables but I've read people suggesting Army are the quickest (days/weeks) while the Navy/Marines tend to take much longer.
You could be onto something because the two prior trucks were from the Army. :)

If you do not mind me asking, will you title the MTVR as a recreational vehicle (RV), not an offroad vehicle? how did you title your FMTV?
Am I crazy trying to troubleshoot mine and drive it home or should play it safe and have it hauled? It's 200 miles away.
MTV is registered as an RV (because it is) but that also means I don't have to get a CDL.
I'll register the mtvr as the same. Unfortunately rules and licenses are excessively complicated...thanks government for the "freedom".

Absolutely!! That is my goal as well. However for me, I’d like my living quarters to be removeable. Not sure that will work out for me though. If not. I may have to get my non cdl class E. If you look at semi trucks that were converted, usually, the truck it’s self were not physically converted as it used as the tow vehicle. While, titling and registration were converted and used to haul/tow campers instead. Where in theory they physically could still tow whatever (Trailer or camper). I’m not sure if they legally could tow say anything they'd like for personal use.

I'd love to make mine very easily removable and self-sufficient when it is, however I'm not sure the tradeoff will be worth it. I'd like to have a very large passthough by taking off the roof and rear panel and have that area connected to the camper.

For an even more ridiculously Overkill camper look at this. At least it has room for six people!
If you want to slap an expansible van body on it and you can find one in good condition that isn't rusty, I'll send you the 3D files. I reverse engineered the entire habitat!
That thing is very cool and I looked into that briefly as the cab is huge with that rear seat. Would have worked very well. There were just too many things I didn't like, the horrible fuel economy, top speed of 45, lack of lockers in the axles, detroit engine (I know later ones have the CATs but those aren't very available). I may build this entire thing up in CAD - I use solidworks professionally. I think I will need to do the habitat custom to get everything I want.

Working on figuring out the horn. The pieces in my hand were just laying on the dash. Figured out how it goes together but I'm pretty sure there is supposed to be a wire connected to the brass part in the wheel. Likely 3 mounting holes and then one for the signal wire. Looks like I'll need to pull the steering wheel but I just so happen not to have that size.

Looks like the truck had "IROAN" done to it in 2011. Whatever that is?

@aw113sgte - Being a family of four, are you considering changing or modifying the cab? Could you adjust the seats and seat belts to fit all four of you with the current cab? what is the usable interior cab width, side to side?

I'm not sure the total plan, however I do want to fit all 4 up front when desired. Thankfully we are all thin so this can happen. I was considering widening the bench seat on each side (there are several inches to gain on both) and keeping the air ride driver seat. Adding a seatbelt is totally doable as the .25" thick cab is strong enough for flexible mounting locations. I plan to make the habitat with rollover protection so riding in the back is an option as well.

Reprogrammed the transmission controller to not aggressively downshift when using the Jake. Also did the same to the MTV. This way I can choose to downshift for more engine braking and it doesn't aggressively max out the revs.
It's the "engine brake preselect shift range" setting. Normally at 2nd, changed to 6th. As far as I can tell 6th is seventh on our keypads. 2nd on keypad equals first in software, and 1st on keypad is equal to "low" in software . I think this is because our first gear is not normally used in civilian applications so they didn't intuitively program it in the software.

would you consider sharing which cable(s) are needed to connect to each major device and what and where to download the reprogram or system files please?

Need full DEALER LEVEL CAT ET with factory password generator and ALLISON Software and a J1939 compatible hardware data link. I offer a service to reprogram both ECM and TCM.

If you mess up your steering column removing the steering wheel your rear lights on your truck will never work properly again without a new steering column which from what I can tell is totally proprietary.

It's a bit of a process, I personally use a dpa3+ and an old laptop with a serial port but many USB options exist. Software for tcm reprogramming, you need Allison doc. If you want to reprogram the ecm, you need cat et dealer. People are around that can do these services (I'm not one) or if you really want to get more into the weeds, you can pm me and I can give more info.
