I have to admit I didn't read everything here, but I did see a couple of posts that have the same thing I was thinking.

In another forum I'm a member of, we have an 'opt-in' section. Anything goes. When you agree to have that section visible for you to view, you also agree that (nearly) anything goes. Nearly meaning keep it legal, but feel free to discuss sensitive topics and other offensive discussions are possible.
It works very well.
There is the mess hall section that's available to paid members. It's more lax in conversations. (But still no political discussion or offensive material)

The flippin' timeout!!

Other than that, you guys run a great forum, thanks. I can't use the 'Remember Me' box on my computer at work and I like to check things over my lunch hour.
Sorry, but that's just how things work. It's a balancing act. I could set the timeout to run for say 5 hours. But we'd retain extra database connections the longer we specify that. And then it'd also look like some people never log off unless they sleep. Which could lead to other issues amongst users. ("I see you're online, why aren't you answering my PM????")

In the mv of the month poll have the ability to see who voted for who, and change your vote if desired.
You can already see who voted by clicking on the poll results. I've always set the polls to be public so people can see there's no trickery.

Changing the vote, they don't allow that in elections do they? :D

The only thing I have found that is an irritation to me has been of late concerning a certain organisation that has greatly reduced what products they are offering for sale (I am trying very hard NOT to start a huge debate here) How do I stay up on this information and learn more about what is going on and when and IF it will end? By the way I am writing THIS it seems like this is truly a forbidden subject, I am just trying to learn more about this activity and will it continue for ever or is it temporary?
OK that has been my only irritation worth mentioning in 5 years on this site!

It's been explained abundantly in the locked thread. When we know something, we'll let you know and open things up for discussion. Otherwise, it's speculation.

I think PATRACY needs an avatar! Maybe something involving a very large green machine! :driver:

I'm not following you? I've got a avatar. It's the SEMTT. Large enough...

Are you talking about a smiley? (animated icon)

If so, I have one of those too.

Well, yes, that will happen. It happens on many forums, not just SS.

If you have something crucial that needs : or ( or any of those characters. Use the code brackets like you used.

Or if the smileys aren't what you want to see, click on the disable smilies button under additional options when you post a thread. You can use :) and :p and whatever without conversion to smilies. I believe that was mentioned earlier though.
