Wouldn't it be smarter to mount my solar panel on my dash and just route the wiring through the firewall? Too much light blockage there?

Hello, Erik,
Yes, too much light blockage and/or reflection from the window.
It can and should be mounted outside the vehicle for maximum solar panel charging.
I just installed mine on the hood of my M1009, just forward of the front windshield,
on the passenger side, on a spot on the hood with no reinforcement underneath.
I followed these instructions from Combat Jump and another SS'er in this thread:

on the hood right over the rear battery area infornt of the passenger. thats where mine was when i bought the truck. there is a thread in hooking them up somewhere on here, but i can't remember the name of the thread just search solargizer install and go from there.
