I've heard the question so many times, what's that thing that looks like a lifting eye abouve the leaf springs? What's that C shaped loop on the side of the deuce bed for? For the longest time I had no idea. Then a while back a good friend who knows WAY more than I do about the deuces and five tons told me about a bar that slides through the 'C' and pins in above the leaf spring for lifting one side of the truck at a time. Today he sent me pictures of that bar, and also a bracket used on older trucks that didn't have the 'C'.

He's one of those guys that has to have every single accessory for his wreckers...yes wreckerS. I've actually seen the bars many times but had no clue wat they were at the time, he found his in a wrecking yard. The bracket you won't need unless your truck doesn't have the C under the bed.

G/L had a fair amount of them that sold a few years back. For those of you wanting to install just such a critter, plan on scheduling some time for it. The pins above the leaf spring can be a chore to get out. They are not threaded as some have said, theres a friction ball (like a ratchet) in there. The balls get rusty and freeze up. If you do succeed at removing them they will leave a nice little groove down the side of thie pin. If you have an extra set, soak the area of the pins head in Kroil or GM Heatvalve lubricant daily for a few days or months and you might get lucky. Once they're working and lubed up its just a matter of a little tap and they come right out.

I thought I read a TM or air drop manual? where it stated to cut holes in the bed for cables to go through and connect to those brackets above the leaf springs, just fyi

There are supposed to be holes for air drop. For standard lifting onto a ship and so forth, the brackets spoken of were used (sometimes).
