Gentlemen:
I'm a bit confused (nothing new!) I have finally installed a winch and PTO on my M35A2, but still haven't installed a drive shaft.
Years ago I installed a winch on an older M35 gasser truck. That PTO driveshaft had universal joints at both ends that were in big castings that fit on the shafts of both the PTO and the winch.
The universal joint that fit on the PTO was machined to take the long splines of the drive shaft, I think the term is a "slip yoke"
So all I know about installing the winch/PTO/driveshaft is based on my M35 Gasser experience.
I have read on this forum that the rear PTO gasser yoke will not work on the M35A2 without grinding/removing metal from the bell housing.
So.......onto my current dilemma, I put the PTO off of a gasser M35 onto my M35A2, it still has the older "gasser style" yoke attached to it. I did his over a month ago.
Finally two weeks ago my winch showed up and I intalled that with no problems at all. (which kind of amazed me!)
Then I went and got my NOS driveshaft I ordered over 2 years ago off of ebay, took it out of the wrapper and was dismayed to find it was nothing like what I was familiar with.
The rear yoke does not slip onto the PTO's shaft, instead it has a 4 bolt flange on it, that apparently mates to a flange that fits on the PTO.
Also what threw me off, was that there is no sliding yoke, the drive shaft is solid, it can't move back and forth like a regular drive shaft, and like the gassers drive shaft did.
So I just ASSumed somebody screwed me, and sent me the wrong driveshaft.
I tried looking at the manuals on this site but never found a good picture of the pto to driveshaft relationship.
But yesterday I came across someones pictures of their new M35A2 deuce, and they took a picture of the PTO and it appears I may have the correct drive shaft after all, and that I'm just missing the flange that fits on the PTO shaft.
Sooo.......if that's a correct accessment of my situation then I need the flange that fits the PTO.
Does someone have one of those for sale?
THANKS!
