Well I went up to jersey yesterday to look at some deuces that George (gem1410) had for sale and I found the perfect one for me. He asked 4600 for it so I gave him 2000 to hold it for me till December when I'll have the rest of the money available to purchase it from him (pics and a short walkaround wideo to follow on or about Monday) here's the low down on it:

1971 Jeep Corp M35a2 wo/w soft top
Recently rebuilt White LDT465 with a whistler
New camo paint job
Troop seats (in very good condition, dropped them down and took a seat)
Very minimal rust, all of which was just surface, no cancer
Like new (85% or better) michelan (sp?) super singles, 11x20 if memory serves me, forgot to write it down, lol
Interior in exelent condition, seats are perfect and very cushy
All gauges work properly
Front bumper step
Starts right up when you touch the button
No holes in the exhaust
Dash and frame numbers match (deffinate plus)
Only little thing I found wrong was an EXTREMELY negligable air leak at the passenger rear glad-hand, easy fix, probly only needs a new seal
He's also throwing in a brand new desert tan soft top, which I'll just rattle can to match the rest of the truck.

It has a clean Florida title and he said when I come to pick it up in December he'll take me out on the road and get me familiar with it before sending me on my merry way back to Delaware.

All in all a very good experience, was nice to finally meet someone off the site and get to know the truck, he was very helpful and had a decent amount of trucks there to look at, but this one just sucked me right in. I would deffinatly recommend him to anyone in the Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey area looking to buy a deuce, weathe it's your first or your just adding to the collection.

I'd like to hear anyones opinions or suggestions if you have any

I've been bitten by the OD Iron bug and I won't be searching forthe cure, I like it :) :driver:

If your happy then its a good deal.
My suggestion is to stop looking and asking if you got a good deal. After you agree to buy a truck some one else will always know where a nicer and cheaper truck is. This may be a real vehicle or one imagined.

Sounds like a good truck

To me the price is a little steep, BUT what from I have seen and heard he does a pretty good job going over his trucks.

Your in Delaware and cont find someone who will let you play with a truck? Try a little harder, there are plenty of members down that way.

Looks like you need to change your signature, you found a truck now.

I'm deffinatle very happy with the one I picked out. Wanted to see if anybody noticed a base I might not have covered with it. I have about 4 pictures sitting on the camera right now. Would have taken more but that whole kid in the candy shop mentality took over when I put the cam back in my jacket pocket  (tried to snag the pictures off my face book but that didn't happen, guess the suspense will be killing you guys until I get to my camera on Monday)

I was really looking to cap my price at 4000, but, as clean and good running as it was, and with the like new singles, the extra 600 was well worth it.

Oh, and the signature now reflects my findings :D

(pics will be up in the next few hrs if what I'm doing works when I get to my PC)

Pics would be nice! BUT that said I think you di just fine on the truck if its in as nice a shape as you and it already had good singles on it you did fine. Congratula tions the Deuces are a vehicle unot themselves, I hope you are somewhat mechanically inclined and if so there is not a single repair needed for these aht you will not be able to accomplish. In the resources section of this site you can find every TM known to man concerning these trucks and trust they a whole lot possible with the info inside! Congrats again and welcome to the GREEN VIRUS, its wonderful!

stuff to think about.

just throwing this out for the heck of it.... how are the brakes, how old is the engine coolant and all the other fluids. I recently got a 1987 ex air force deuce at auction that was very neglected, but only has 14000 miles on it.
The fuel system tank and 3 fuel filters were all severly loaded with brown goo. I have changed those, and I just got done changing out the fluids in all three axles, lots more to do. The 1971 truck I have had for awhile was gone thru by seller and had come out of NE national guard a year before I bought it, saw maintenance records with truck, its in better basic maintenace shape than the 1987, but long term I feel the 1987 truck will be great once I go thru everything. Sounds like you did fine, just ask some more questions about the maintenance so you know what needs to be done to it. [thumbzup]

Kk: I'm rather mechanically inclined actually, I've been going to an automotive trade school since last June, with my core class being Diesel, got really good at tearing down the B series Mack (672? I think) since it always had one more hidden problem pop up when we put it back together :)

Mcm: thanks for the suggested questions, I asked about the brakes and as told he checks each one when he gets it and that they were in good shape. I'll defiantly ask about the coolant and such before recovery.

Thanks guys,
James

more machinery underneath

usually 800 to 1000 for all the winch parts, usually closer to 1000 from what I have seen. I had fun for a couple years with a non winch truck but my newer one has a winch, that is why I got it, just cuz they look cool, but man there is a lot of extra machinery in the way when you are working underneath on some stuff; it's drivehaft, the pto, and the control lever up into the cab. all extra stuff in the way when working on stuff like the secondary fuel filters, adjusting the clutch, etc. I know, I am just whining. I got under the non winch truck the other day to look at something for comparison and man oh man, so much more room under there. Enjoy your non winch truck for awhile before ya upgrade. ;-)
