Sources/options and types of 12V wiper and heater fan motors…

Guys, what are the options for conversion of windshield wiper and heater fan motors to 12 Volt in our M998 type vehicles?

Make it out of plywood rofl

Or you can take it all apart, measure it and find a 12v motor of a similar size and make it fit. That's what I would do.

Others have done it so I’m trying not to reinvent the wheel here.

If necessary I will use a Jeep tj motor.

I hate 24 Volt. Using my custom system to swap to 12 Volt on several trucks including my own.

Using my custom PCB. Similar to CamO unit BUT allows more options. (Make no mistake, I love CamO and his product).

I would think an early H1 blower motor would be 12v and fit. It would probably use the same bird cage too.

Problem is cost. H1 parts are usually expensive until you discover things like steering column came from Ford Escort and such.

That blower motor does not look special in any way but when you see a retail of $150 for a $30 part that is nuts.

This pic has a part number and mfg looks like hunter? maybe you can get the pic cleaned up and zoom in. Someone makes this motor for universal applications and you can always have the wiring tidbits in the kit that are needed.

Napa in my days in the balkamp line had universal blower motors if you can find a parts guy that has an illustrated parts paper guide or knows what that is.........

Or you can pay them $250 a year and they might be able to give you some cross over info.......

What more do you need to start the truck ?
His is the best out there and there are a few that did a manual box.

Don’t beat him up too bad. Tobash is at least close. The steering column has a ford keyed ignition and if you are looking for a steering wheel adapter you will be buying one for a mustang or truck of an early model. I think both can be made from plywood. Lol

Guys, springer is a nice guy but springer is dead wrong about the escort steering column and I’ve stopped giving a damn. I don’t need to fight over this. It’s not worth creating conflict and bad feelings.

86humv, I created my schematics with CamO’s help over a year ago AND I posted them here in SteelSoldiers! Anyone can make this PCB bypass with those schematics! My unit is just as robust BUT also has LED showing glow plug activation vs PCB activation lights on the dash. I love CamO and never said his unit wasn’t excellent. The CamO unit is solid and excellent. Not sure why you posted implying otherwise.

Post number 51 shows the schematics I publicly posted a long time ago. (I drew the diodes backwards).


hunvee, 12Volt is standard and if ever you need a jump in the middle of no where then you are not SOL. Many people prefer 12 Volt. I’m not saying the starter torque is as good but 12 Volt uncomplicates things.

Rewinding a motor takes hours by hand and is a very precise activity. I don’t have the patience nor the technical expertise. Easier to sell the 24 Volt units for a lot of $ and then purchase the cheaper 12 Volt units. Another method is using a power inverter circuit.

You have to understand where he is they just don't throw everything away, probably much easier to rewind a motor than to find anything that would fit a HMMWV.
HUNvee we don't have many real motor shops left, most just toss it and get another, so they just did not survive, there are a few though, but labor is so high it has to be something expensive to make it worth while.

Hunvee. Mogman is correct and I understand. Thanks Mogman.

Here in the USA my 24Volt HMMWV windshield motor is very expensive. It is easier and more cost effective to sell it and purchase a readily available 12Volt replacement. The 24 Volt HMMWV unit is worth at least $200 US. A 12 Volt replacement is less that $40 US.

For me to rewire it would damage the part’s value and I would lose money.

I just went with a dual voltage system with the DuraVee, I rewired the entire truck from headlights to tail lights and all is 12V but for the WW and heater, the reason I did not look at converting the WW etc. is because the shelter/camper I am building will be running both 12V and 24V equipment. TOBASH, how are you going to run those bad ass compressors on 12V? I am installing both of them in the camper!, I also have a multitude of 24V devices like 500W aircraft landing lights to install and the start/run power for the MEP831A, fortunately the 6.6L can be easily equipped with dual alternators, so basically I have two completely separate systems.
Doing the WW motor should be relatively easy, I doubt you will find a "plug and play" fix but it is basically just a motor with a 90 degree gear head, one from say a CJ5 or probably a multitude of commercial truck applications could probably be adapted.
You may find the answer to the blower motor in the commercial truck sector, most automotive applications use press on plastic fan cages now.
Maybe even something from Granger may work, they seem to have allot of that kind of stuff.

Mogman, thanks. Granger and industrial truck equipement is a great idea! Jeep wiper parts are also great idea that I also am exploring. A custom mount might be required. Maybe I will use plywood just to tease springer. He seems to be beating up on me lately. 😉

Compressors will require a power inverter. I can’t believe you remembered I have them!!! LOL
