I'm sure I am missing something, but is the 4th gear in the MT643 a 1:1 AND the 5th gear in the MD6030 also a 1:1? If so, how does that improve the 1:1 in the transmission that come stock and has a final gear of 1:1?MD3060 size is 33.2 inches front to rear and 12.8 inches deep on the PTO drive gear @ 575lbs.
without the pto attachment is it 29.2 inches long and 12.8inches deep @ 535lbs.
The MT643 is 30.4 inches long, 19.3 inches wide and 22.4 inches tall and weighs 510lbs without the retarder.
It is pretty hard to kill the MT643, they will even run when they are coming apart internally. Yes the direct drive is a burden in 4th but they are cheap and easily found. You can buy 3 or 4 of them @ the price of one MD3060. There is a guy in MN and another in OH that can do some tricks to the 643 to get a little better 4th gear ratio. The 643 also has a GVW limit of 72k compared to the MD is in the 50k range I believe.
You can also go with a spicer 4054 transmission in an A3 with the SAE 2 bellhousing, flywheel in pics and a 14" disc. It is a direct drive 5th gear as well. I think I know where a clark is with a .88 OD but not sure ill have to check
The MD3060 uses all the same parts to bolt to the engine that the 1545/545/643 would use. It is just electronic though.
I have a worked used MD3060 in my garage with less than 60k on it with the computer and harness for $2500 shipped to a terminal.
Aha.... really???? So YOU have looked at both and actually counted teeth to confirm that... or?On a spicer 3053A you are looking at a .85 5th gear ratio compared to a .75 in the B model.

Their fun to drive as well, don't need the clutch all the time, and the little cat would sound nice gruntin at lower rpm's in overdrive of the tranny. I thnk fullers have some overdrive ratios in them somewhere.I was thinking that a eaton fuller 9 speed might work looks to be about the right size and some I have talked to say it would bolt to the cat 3116.
It is cast iron and 17-1/2" O.D.; you would have to remove a ton of material and adapt a smaller ring gear to make it fit into a SAE#3 housing. (for that size I have used/ modified M35 gasser's flywheel & clutch...).....what material is the multifuel (flywheel), cast iron or steel? if it was steel it could be moded to fit the cat?
Yes, that's correct. But the transmission (3053) is an SAE #3??
